In Mark 6 and Matthew 14 the miracle of Jesus walking on the water is detailed more than John's account. Jesus forced His disciples by commanding them to get into the boat as Jesus stayed behind. If you have ever felt that we cannot go back and we cannot go forward when Jesus made us go, then you have felt what the disciples may have felt this night. Sometimes when we are in a difficult situation, God shows up and we are terrified. God is not required to tell us what He is up to, He does say He will never leave nor forsake us. If we want to overcome our fears, we need to obey God, He will meet us in the scary situation and teach us not to be afraid. 365 times in the Bible it says not to be afraid. The difference between feeling fear and being afraid is whether or not the fear takes control. If we allow fear to overcome our lives we will not be able to do what God tells us to. Worry is fruitless because 98% of what we worry about never happens. We do not have to be afraid. We must focus on what God has told us to do, our responsiblity is to simply be obedient. There is no problem that God cannot handle. If we trust in Him and do what He says we have nothing to worry about. Jesus really does not need what we bring to the table. He chooses to use people because He chooses to incorporate Him into His plan, not because He needs us. Part of the miraculous power where Jesus fed the 5,000, was that He gave thanks. We too should give thanks when faced with impossible situations. God wants to teach us not to be afraid.
