An Evangelical grace; not a natural disposition, personality, temperament, etc. Some people are temperamentally kind, meek like, in the way they interact but it is not the work of the Spirit. • It is a fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:23). • It is the one poor in spirit who spiritually mourns that will be "meek." He sees himself as a sinner who mourns over his sins and therefore views himself as nothing. Cannot be proud. • MLJ says, "When a man truly sees himself, he knows nobody can say anything about him that is too bad. You need not worry about what men may say or do; you know you deserve it all and more." • He shows it in his words about himself, his gestures, and demeanor. • He does not want to be recognized, draw attention to himself! • The meek man is amazed and humbled that God cares for him and others regard him – cannot understand why any attention is given to him. How do I "cultivate" meekness? • One of the signs of being meek is that he or she is "teachable." He never feels or believes he has arrived. • This teachableness is best described by Watson. He says that meekness implies two things in relation to God. ONE: Submission to his will ("It is the Lord, let him do what seemeth him good" (1 Sam. 3:18). "Let God do what he will with me, let him carve out what condition he please, I will submit." TWO: Flexibleness to God's Word — we are willing to let his word sway our souls and make ourselves flexible and bend towards His Word. • Spend time confessing and repenting of those secret risings of pride and wounded pride. • Run to our meek and lowly exalted Lord Jesus and he will forgive and by His Spirit slowly transform you to be like Him!
