This passage tells the remarkable story of how the apostle Paul was enabled to bear witness to an angry Jewish mob who had only moments before tried to kill him. Paul showed them he was once just like them. He too had been zealous for God - so much so that he persecuted Christians to death. Paul never forgot what he had done. But the memory of his past sin did not disable him. Rather it reminded him that 'Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners' of whom he was the foremost. He had no doubt that if God could show him such mercy, then He could save anyone - even those who sought his life.
