Because God alone is able to count a sinner righteous on the basis of Christ's one and only righteous life and atoning sacrifice, then salvation can only be by faith alone. Galatians 2: 15–21 sets forth the main point of Paul's letter that we are justified by faith alone without the works of the law. This paragraph also sums up the answer to the question, "Do we depend entirely on Grace, or is it Grace plus works that justifies us before God?" Paul's repetitions in verse 16 make it clear: "…yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law, but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ, and not by works of the law, because by works of the law, no one will be justified."
