Christ's death is beyond doubt as he's taken from the cross and placed in a tomb. Truly he bore our sins and truly he died, as foretold by the prophet Isaiah. Yet his death and burial is an occasion for two groups of people to put faith and faithfulness into practice. Joseph (standing in for faithful Israel) shows us what courage and care involves in the face of danger. The unnamed women teach us of a practical faith that's embodied in patient obedience. And, while we may live this side of the resurrection, we must learn the courage and patience that's required of us as we await Christ's return.
