The straw that broke the camel's back was when Jesus allowed a woman to pour out an expensive jar of perfume on Jesus' feet. Judas had hung in there for all the spiritual kingdom of God mumbo jumbo but this "burial prep" cut into the one part of being a disciple he liked, embezzling from the ministry funds. So, Judas goes to Jesus' opponents to get money out of them. If he wasn't going to be able to profit off of Jesus in life, he could profit off Jesus in death.
Let us look at how Jesus prepares the disciples for his own betrayal. A betrayal I am sure they wrestled with on the days between the cross and the resurrection. As we dive into the text, I hope you will see with me Jesus' brings purpose out of all things, even betrayal. As Jesus anticipated, announced and addressed His betrayal, we can find meaning for betrayal in our own lives.
