All wars are ordered by God. The general providence of God by which he rules all his creatures and all their actions certainly encompasses warfare. But also, he has a particular interest in warfare and thus calls himself Lord of hosts, a man of war, etc.
We should have respect for the cause of wars and not involve ourselves in an unjust cause.
Though the cause is just, we must neither trust our own strength nor neglect the use of means.
We must not fear when fighting the Lord's battles. "Be of good courage and let us play the men...." (2 Samuel 10:12).
There is a duty before and during a war to join prayer with preparation. After the war, we should attribute our success to God alone. [Click on the "Outside Web Link" to see the Order of Worship and other audio from the service in which this sermon was preached]
