On Sunday September 18, 2011, Elder Howard Saunders was called home, by his heavenly Father, to Glory. Sunday also marked the 35th Anniversary of the Free Presbyterian Church in Toronto, in which Mr. Saunders was a founding member. He served as elder for many years and was a true pillar in the congregation.
Howard was a good man, a Godly man, and a faithful man. He rarely missed a worship service or church meeting rain or shine, sleet or snow - even in weakness of health. His compassion extended beyond his family to the needs of his church, his neighbourhood, and his city, where he often shared the love of Christ with whomever he met. In addition, Howard took a keen interest in and helped to support many missionaries and ministers across the world. Dr. F. McClelland often referred to his friend Howard as "our chiefest of men."
Above all, Howard had a fervent love for the Lord and rejoiced every day that Jesus Christ was his Saviour. His earnest praying expressed that love for God and compassion for people. Howard will be greatly missed as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He fought a good fight, he finished his course, and he kept the faith (2 timothy 4:7). To God be the glory! |
