The church in Corinth lived in a city that was worldly known for its moral corruption so much so that there was even a Greek word made out of its name to describe gross immorality and drunken debauchery. And the church wanted to live in that city and take part in its lifestyle and at the same time, live the life of a spotless believer in Christ who was renewed and saved from sin. You can see the contradiction can't you? And in 1 Corinthians we read, Paul is combating that living in the world of sin and living in Christ crucified.

What does he do? He disciples others by putting himself as an example to follow. " I do not write these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children. For if you were to have countless tutors in Christ, yet you would not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me." (1 Corinthians 4:14-16)
