One of the things unbelievers don't seem to understand about Christianity is how central The Bible is. Sure, they think they understand that it's kind of a rule book, kind of a history book, and kind of a general rule of thumb. However, what they don't understand is that The Bible is God's Word.

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16)

For no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. (2 Peter 1:21)

Yes, The Bible provides rules to live by. Yes, The Bible contains accurate history. Yes, The Bible provides guidance. However, at the very core of The Bible is the very words of God - the Sovereign Lord, the Almighty Creator, the Holy King. When disciples of the Living God fail to listen to God's Word, they are depriving themselves of the very means in which He communicates with us. Those of us who can come along and help disciple others must rely on The Bible, we must proclaim The Bible, and we must encourage the importance of The Bible.
