All this week on the "Calling For Truth" Radio Program, we have been discussing Researcher George Barna's "Lists the 12 Most
Significant Religious Findings from 2006". This list is basically a compilation of a single significant finding (or noteworthy outcome) from each of 12 surveys that Barna Research conducted throughout 2006. Additionally, at the end of the list Barna offers some conclusions. To view the entire list see www.barna.org.
For the past few days we have discussed the first three survey findings, including: The low priority professing Christian place on their relationship with God, The propensity for teenagers to dabble in the occult, and the lack of understanding among professing Christians re: the importance of personal holiness.
On today's program we will take a look at Barna's fourth noteworthy survey outcome where he divides professing Christians into two categories: Born-again Christians and "Revolutionaries".
This division among professing Christians has caused us to stop and ask a few questions: First of all, Is this division Scriptural? And secondly, is a Christian Revolutionary (at least as Barna describes them) something desirable for the Church?
Barna's division of the Christian Community into two groups (those who profess and those who profess but really mean it) seems to be a resurrection of another popular but (in our view) unscriptural division between Carnal Christians and Spiritual Christians.
Additionally, Barna's Revolutionaries (which he not only predicts statistically but strongly promotes in his recent book - Revolution) are certainly a disturbing not desirable trend in the Church today.
