Why isn't the Bible just a collection of rules but is also stories of men and women whose lives are revealed to us by God? Because we can see real men and women who lived in a specific time and a specific place and we can see them as examples of living out God's command - both for good and for bad.

One of the evidences we have for believing the truthfulness of the Bible is what's called "evidence from embarrassment". The great kings and conquers and nations write their history where they have no defeats and no negative black eyes - nations like Egypt can testify to this. But when we look at the Bible there is only Jesus Christ who stands out as perfect.

Moses was a murderer. King David a adulterous murderer. Solomon was an idolater. Peter was a denier of Christ. The disciples hid in fear. The inner circle of Jesus were constantly ignorant of His Teachings. Paul was a persecutor of Christians. And on and on and on. The Bible's testimony is a testimony of flawed men. But the Bible is also a testimony that God is righteous and perfect and has a divine decree for flawed men and women.
