Popular religion organizes times of ‘prayer,’ and uses those times to keep people busy in what is called praying, believing that if they don’t do it as instructed, God won’t bless. The worst belief is that somehow God needs our prayers to get the victory in difficult situations. Nothing could be further from the truth (Acts 17:25)
A Spirit-filled prayer meeting is an effect of God moving His children to pray.23 And being let go, they went to their own company and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them. Peter and John had been imprisoned for preaching the name of Christ as the reason for the healing of the lame man. And when they were let go, by God’s sovereign purpose, they went and joined themselves to their own fellow believers and communicated to them all that had transpired, and how the LORD was directing even through the threats of the religious leaders. The religious leaders let them go, but it was God who determined they should be let go, even as Pharoah could not hold Israel captive one second longer than what God determined. The gates of hell shall not prevail! Matthew 16:18
A Spirit-filled prayer meeting is with one accord unto God24 And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God [Supreme Magistrate] with one accord, and said, Lord,[literally a despot- absolute ruler] thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:Where the Spirit works, there is oneness of mind and heart in the One to whom we pray, and His Son the Mediator and Substitute. 1 Timothy 2:5
A Spirit-filled prayer meeting is founded on Scripture to the glory of Christ and His death25 who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things? 26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ. 27 For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together, 28 for to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done. [They were gathered together for the purpose of executing, their own will, as they thought, but in reality to fulfil the eternal purpose of God-Isaiah 10:5-15; Isaiah 37:26, 27)] Any meeting together for prayer will be according to the revealed Word of God. There is no true meeting for prayer that does not include the reading and hearing of the Word as the foundation.
A Spirit-filled prayer meeting gives boldness to declare Christ against all opposition29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, 30 by stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus. 31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. Even as the Spirit is the author of the Scriptures, so He must give the utterance of the Word (Christ). One of the clearest testimonies to the work of the Spirit is when He gives redeemed sinners an utterance to speak boldly of the person and exclusive work of the LORD Jesus in saving sinners, even in the face of much opposition. It is not our praying that causes the filling of the Spirit. It is rather the filling of the Spirit that gives us utterance to the Father, through the LORD Jesus Christ, Romans 8:26.
