"Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he." Proverbs 29:18

The vision in this passage is a prophetic vision, the opening or instruction of the word of God. God has graciously provided many means of opening up of His word. His Spirit opens the word to our understanding as we commit ourselves to study of His word. He has gifted men with the ability to teach and preach, revealing His truth to our hearts. He has equipped parents with the capacity to teach the word to their children. The reason God has provided so many means of dispensing His word is because His word is absolutely essential to our lives. Without it, the people perish. Consider that statement. Do you believe this to be true? Can you exist, can you manage life, without the opening of His word to your understanding? God values His word because His word is an expression of Him. He is jealous of His word because He is jealous of His glory. He removes the opening, the understanding of His word from those who undervalue it. And in doing so, they perish. Let us all freshly commit ourselves today to the word of God.
