“I have had all that I can possibly take”; “If I don’t say it, no one else will”; “I am sick and tired of ______, and I’m going to let them (or you) know about it”. Do any of these thoughts sound familiar? These are the thoughts of an individual who is fed up, and ready to give full vent to their anger. You may be surprised to know that the bible has something to say about the self-centered, therapeutic art of venting. You may also be surprised to find out that the bible says that giving full vent to your anger or frustration is a sign of foolishness, and a lack of self-control. This may not resonate well with you, since many people say they feel better after a good venting session. However, the fact that we can feel good after doing what God calls foolish is just another proof that our feelings are notorious for leading us astray. Tomorrow we will look at God’s alternative for venting.
