Prayer and Predestination

“…they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, LORD, Thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is…”

(Acts 4:24)

“For to do whatsoever Thy hand and Thy counsel determined before to be done”

(Acts 4:28)

Nothing causes natural man to bristle with hatred like the doctrine of God’s predestination. He asks, “So, you believe what will be, will be?” Or, “So, you believe you can do whatever you want?” No, to both! This Bible doctrine teaches no such thing! Regarding the first question, what will be is what the all-wise God purposed. Regarding the second question, God’s spiritually awakened elect seek to be obedient to His will. We don’t have to look beyond the events concerning Christ to see both of these truths.

Predestination –. In verse 27, the apostle named “Herod”, “Pilate”, “Gentiles” and “Jews” being gathered to act “against Thy [God’s] Holy Child Jesus”. He identified this as the fulfillment of Psalm 2, leading us to ask, how could that be if it were not predestined? Then, he added, “determined before”, which is the one word predestine or predestinate. Because we don’t know how God brings His purposed predestination to pass, does not make it not so.
