We are often amused as we drive along most any highway to see so much road kill. Animals of all kinds lie dead because they were hit by a car. I do hate to see anything die. Life is dangerous on the road for deer and any other creature.

What is most amazing yet to me is how quickly the vultures (we call them buzzards) congregate for the feast of dead meat. Surely God has given these scavengers some kind of sensitive radar to pick up the smell in nothing flat. If it’s any size at all, buzzards cover it right away, and almost refuse to move when a car is coming.

I know very little about them, but I do know about three characteristics they have. They like what stinks. They crave helpless things. They are attracted to dead things which they can devour.

I have pastored for many years in New Orleans, and since retirement, have preached in many churches, holding meetings in different states and still supply preach a little. In my 81 year journey I’ve seen some trouble makers along the way that remind me so much of those flesh eaters. Don’t misunderstand me please, I’m not calling people buzzards, I would not do that at all. But I’ve seen some people who are always looking for a stink. If there is no stink going on, they will create one.

There are also some who are being used of the devil who spread stink and gossip which will potentially kill others. Have you seen this bunch that reminds us of buzzards?

Then there are those who have a tongue long enough to tear down kingdoms. They are like gossip machines, killing as they go. They destroy a person’s reputation, ruin his testimony for Christ, and cause people to go to Hell. They sure remind me of the buzzard.
