Almost Persuaded

Rev. A. J. Ogden

We always say that Paul was on trial when he stood before King Agrippa, and of course that is true, as far as the people on earth are concerned. But in reality it was not Paul, but Agrippa on trial, as far as God was concerned. Agrippa had his chance to be saved and miss Hell for eternity, but failed to act. When one misses Heaven by one inch, that is as bad as missing it by a million miles!

Acts 26:28 tell us, “Then Agrippa said unto Paul, almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.” Paul replies in verse 28 by saying, “I would to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds.” As far as we know, King Agrippa never did get saved. He was so near, and yet so far. He never acted on his conviction. He almost became a child of the King, but now he suffers in a terrible place called Hell.

Many times down through the years when we had out preaching services, I saw men and women hang on to the back of a pew and weep, sad to say, but some of them have gone out into eternity without Christ and without hope.

To be almost persuaded is to be lost. God always says that now, today, is the right time to rush into his arms. Tomorrow may be eternally too late. If you continue to harden your heart, or say no, or postpone your salvation, one day it will be too late forever. Why not now?
