The Gospel of Christ
“For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ: for it is the Power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith." ( Romans 1:16-17 )
A. How is it the Gospel of Christ? The apostle Paul describes the Gospel as being ‘of Christ.’
Of Christ in its origin (For of Him, and through Him, and to Him, are all things: to Whom be glory forever. Amen.- ( Romans 11:36 ) Of Christ in its subject (the Gospel of God, (which He had promised afore by His prophets in the Holy Scriptures,) concerning his Son Jesus Christ our LORD- Romans 1:2-3 ) Of Christ in its execution and fulfillment (And He began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.- ( Luke 4:21 ) B. What is the Gospel of Christ? The word means ‘glad tidings,’ so called because throughout the Old Testament the Scriptures foretold that He would come, and the Gospels declare that HE is come, and the Epistles tell us that He is coming again. The glad tidings are that God has fulfilled what He promised in sending His Son to save His elect people, and that the LORD Jesus has earned and established that righteousness required for God to be just and justify His people, and now, the Spirit of God has been sent into the world to draw to Christ Jesus each sinner for whom He paid the debt. What Good News indeed for His elect, sanctified, redeemed, justified and glorified ones in HIM!
C. Who believes the Gospel of Christ?
The Gospel revealed by the Sovereign Spirit is the POWER (dynamite) of God unto salvation. It accomplishes what He has purposed unerringly and effectually, saving each one for whom it is sent. It is not conditioned on the preacher, but on God Himself successfully saving “everyone that believeth.” The Gospel revealed is “the righteousness of God from faith to faith.’ Isaiah 64:6 ). It is the righteousness of God because the LORD Jesus, by His perfect obedience worked it out on behalf of His people to the glory of His Father, as God in the flesh, and therefore is God’s righteousness, imputed to the spiritual account of every one of the elect upon completion of His obedience unto death, and ‘revealed from faith to faith.’
