A HYMN OF PRAISE TO CHRIST Tune to “TAKE MY LIFE” 7.7.7.7. Words by Jim Byrd
1. Sing ye saints this hymn of praise, Hallelujahs let us raise; Bless the Lord of earth and skies, Let our praises now arise, Let our praises now arise.
2. View His great creative might, In the morning’s matchless light; Study providence and see Proofs of His great majesty, Proofs of His great majesty.
3. Yet a greater work appears, What relief to all our fears! God for sinners gave His Son, Jesus, the Anointed One, Jesus, the Anointed One.
4. Lo, He came the lost to save, His own life He freely gave; God was fully satisfied, When Christ Jesus bled and died, When Christ Jesus bled and died.
5. Now the Savior reigns on high, By His grace He brings us nigh; He our sin has washed away, Turned our darkness into day, Turned our darkness into day.
6. So this song of praise we sing, Unto Christ our God and King; We are filled with thankfulness, For the Lord our Righteousness, For the Lord our Righteousness. *****
“Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” (Ephesians 4:31-32)
***** THE INCOMPARABLE CHRIST HE came from the bosom of the Father to the bosom of a woman. He became the Son of Man that we might become sons of God. He was born contrary to the laws of nature, lived in poverty, was reared in obscurity, and only once cross the boundary of the land in childhood. He had no wealth or influence, and had neither training nor education in the world’s schools. His relatives were inconspicuous and non-influential. In infancy He startled a king; in boyhood He puzzled the learned doctors; in manhood He ruled the course of nature. He walked upon the billows and hushed the sea to sleep. He healed the multitudes without medicine and made no charge for His services. He never wrote a book, but all the libraries of the country could not hold the books that have been written about Him. He never wrote a song, yet He has furnished the theme for more songs than all the songwriters put together have. He never practiced medicine, and yet He healed more broken hearts than doctors have healed broken bodies. He is the Star of astronomy, the Rock of geology, the Lion and the Lamb of zoology, the Harmonizer of all discords and the Healer of all diseases. Great men have come and gone, yet He lives on. Herod could not kill Him; Satan could not seduce Him; death could not destroy Him; the grave could not hold Him. “He was rich yet for our sakes became poor” (2 Corinthians 8:9). How poor? Ask Mary. Ask the wise men. He slept in another’s manger; He cruised the lake in another’s boat; He rode on another man’s foal; He was buried in another man’s tomb. He died that we might live. He was cursed that we might be blessed. He entered into the darkness that we might live in the light. He was forsaken by the Father so that we would never be forsaken by the Father. He is the perfect One, the chiefest among ten thousand. “He is altogether lovely” (Song of Solomon 5:16). –author unknown, edited
Substitution “For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly” (Romans 5:6). Go on and hold tightly to your self-righteous rags if that’s what you want to do. Build all of your hopes of acceptance with a holy God upon your prayers, tears, good works, repentance, church attendance and faith. Revisit your religious experience and try to find some comfort, if you foolishly look to that as the basis of your assurance. Make plans for your heavenly mansion based upon your faithfulness if you dare. But as for this sinner, my only plea now and evermore is that when Christ died, He died for me. Substitution is the very heart and soul of the gospel. Jesus Christ, the righteous Son of God, bore my sin, took my place, satisfied on my behalf the demands of a broken law, suffered and died in my stead and by His righteous obedience brought in everlasting righteous for this sinful man. When I face the Lord, should the question be asked, “Why should a sinner like you be allowed into the holy presence of almighty God?”, my only response will be, Lord, let me in for Christ’s sake! My debt of sin I could not pay, But I am heaven bound; For Jesus put my sin away, And they cannot be found! –Pastor Jim Byrd
