From the pen of Brother Brett Clayton, In Proverbs 27:17 the Bible says, “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” The Word Sharpeneth means to be sharp or (figuratively) severe: – be fierce, sharpen.
I remember when I first started going to Church Faithfully back in December of 2004. I had joined The Sonrise Baptist Church the last service of 2004. I wanted to start the Year off like many in the House of God. One of the first verses I heard Bro. Leonard Sampson (The Head Deacon of Our Church) say was this very verse that I write about today, “Iron Sharpeneth Iron.” I remember Bro Leonard saying, “You are like the people you surround yourself with.” That is such a powerful statement. Very simple, yet profound. The Bible says,
Act 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. When we are around the right crowd, a crowd of believers, when we go back to our House, and or Job, it will be noticed. If you go to a bonfire, even though you may not be directly next to the fire, you will smell like smoke. When you leave that bonfire, people will know that you were around smoke.
When you leave your current friends, co-workers, and or family; what do you smell like? Do you smell like the Savior or like a Sinner. Let’s get around a group of people Where our “Iron Sharpeneth Iron.”
