The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.
Proverbs 26:15

Today we receive a look at the self-destructive nature of laziness. The word that is translated bosom here can also be translated dish or bowl. The picture is of a man who is so lazy, that he doesn’t even want to do that which will bring him benefit and pleasure. The slothful man, is a man who lives a life that is completely based on how he feels. He wants to sleep all day, so he does. He doesn’t feel like working, so he doesn’t. Eventually a shift takes place where the slothful man is no longer accommodating his feelings, he becomes enslaved to them. He becomes lazier than he ever imagined an individual could become. His idol has taken him captive, and now he can’t even put his fork to his mouth, without fighting laziness to do it. Brothers and sisters, we had better beware, when we decide to entertain “a little sin” in our lives. Sin is never content to remain small and tame; it will eventually take over our lives. If we would be wise, we would flee to Christ, and take sin seriously.
