“The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.”
Proverbs 26:13

In the next few verses, Solomon once again warns against slothfulness. This theme has already been extensively covered in previous Proverbs. I want to take this opportunity to encourage faithful, repetitive teaching. Whether as pastor or parent, we sometimes feel like a broken record. “They’ve already heard this, they’re tuning me out, I need to find something fresh” may be thoughts you have struggled with. Isn’t it instructive that God, who has never wasted a word, is repetitive in His Word? He returns to themes already covered, and He repeats them, sometimes verbatim. He understands that learning usually is not a once and for all experience. Learning comes through repeated instruction, repeated hearing, and repeated practice. Faithfulness means that we are willing to return to themes that we may have assumed were understood long before, and that we return without resentment.
