“It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.” Proverbs 25:27
Recently, we noted how that pride and the lack of self-awareness are intertwined. This verse brings us back to that reality. The individual who seeks his own glory exposes his lack of glory to everyone else but himself. We see this in many different displays – the person who talks constantly about themselves, the person who constantly is a victim of some perceived slight, the person who loudly trumpets their own wisdom, the person who is consumed with their physical appearance, the person who is hyper-sensitive to criticism. Such a person is never satisfied because there is never enough glory when our own glory is our primary pursuit. God is capable of bringing us exactly what we need. Contentment with His provisions is greater gain than the recognition of others. The pursuit of Godliness is profitable in all things while the pursuit of glory is always destined to fail.
