MY GRACIOUS FRIEND TUNE TO "TAKE MY LIFE" 77.77 WORDS BY JIM BYRD
1. JESUS - What a matchless name, For the Son of God who came; God in love sent down His Son, Christ, the holy, spotless One, Christ, the holy, spotless One.
2. Christ the Lord has saved my soul, Washed my sin and made me whole; By His life of purity, Jesus kept the law for me, Jesus kept the law for me.
3. Once for sinners crucified, "It is finished" Jesus cried. Then He bowed His head and died, God was fully satisfied, God was fully satisfied.
4. From the grave the Lord arose, Conquered over all my foes; Now exalted up on high, All I need He will supply, All I need He will supply.
5. What a mighty, gracious Friend, He will keep me to the end; I will praise His blessed Name, Give Him glory, spread His fame, Give Him glory, spread His fame. *****
"I will declare Thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise Thee. Ye that fear the LORD praise Him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify Him; and fear Him, all ye the seed of Israel." (Psalm 22:22-23) *****
Scripture Reading this Morning: EXODUS 16:11-35 *****
CHRIST DIED FOR OUR SINS Here on earth God’s eternal Son lived and dwelt like one of us, and in the fullness of time, when the sins of all His people had been laid upon Him, He was seized by the officers of justice, and was taken away as having our sins upon His own person, and on the tree was He fastened that He might die, the Just for the unjust that He might bring us to God. Christ stood in the place of His people, and when God’s wrath fell upon sin it fell upon Him, and spent itself upon His person. There is no wrath left in God’s heart now against those for whom the Savior died. Christ has suffered all. The penalty which was due to our guilt has been paid to the utmost farthing by God Himself in the person of His own dear Son. That death of Jesus Christ on Calvary has a sublimity about it which language fails to convey to the human mind, for He who there as man was made an offering for sin was none other than God Himself. He who died upon the tree was not mere man, but "Very God of very God," and hence there is an infinite efficacy in the pangs which He endured, and in the death to which He became obedient, by which the sin of man is put away from the presence of God. –C. H. Spurgeon *****
It is not good for people to spend their lives seeking God and not finding peace in Him. It is not good that we should be ever learning and never able to rest in the knowledge of Christ. It is not good to be always doubting, and when asked about our doubts to make the untrue excuse, "Oh, I am not doubting God, I am only doubting myself." No! It is God who promised life in Christ, and it is God whom we doubt. He said, "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, I WILL GIVE UNTO HIM THAT IS ATHIRST OF THE FOUNTAIN OF THE WATER OF LIFE FREELY" (Revelation 21:6). "And let him that is athirst come, and whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely" (Revelation 22:17). Of this promise Bonar wrote, "Thirsty one, it is with the WATER and not the VESSEL that our souls need to be concerned! It is not the quality of your vessel, but the quality of the water of life (Christ Jesus) that satisfies, sanctifies, and purifies! And he whose pride will not allow him to drink from a weak, soiled, and broken vessel (such is the best faith) must die of thirst; and he who puts away the promise of reconciliation because of imperfect faith must die the death." He who says, "I believe the right doctrine, but I don’t believe it in the right way; therefore, I can’t have peace" is looking totally in the wrong direction and will never find peace. –Henry Mahan *****
THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD There is something infinitely vast and glorious in the righteousness of God. When the deluge covered the earth, it covered the highest mountains. Looking down from above, not one mountain-top could be seen, but a vast world of waters - a vast plain reflecting the beams of the sun. So if you this day lie down under the righteousness of God, the mountains of your sins will not be seen, but only the vast, deep, glorious righteousness of your God and Savior. If you were to cast a stone into the deepest part of the ocean, it would be lost and swallowed up by the deep waves of ocean; so when a sinner is cast down under the righteousness of God, he is as it were lost and swallowed up in Christ. –copied *****
