Dear Prayer Warriors, Each week, I will be posting a series of true and false questions, with the answers appearing below. The object of these questions is for you to test yourself--not a test of obscure Bible trivia but a test of whether you are holding on to Biblical revelation or to myths and legends passed down by ignorant men. You should ask yourself, “If I have believed this myth, what other myths do I believe?” The goal is that you will be challenged to faithfully read and study the Holy Scriptures and base your convictions on the holy, eternal, inerrant written Word of God.
1. TRUE: Although commonly taught, not only does the Bible not say that Peter was crucified upside down but in addition there are no primary source 1st Century documents which substantiate this myth. There exist no primary source first century documents, Biblical, religious or secular to establish this myth. 2. FALSE: James was called “camel knees” because of his prayer life There exist no primary source first century documents, Biblical, religious or secular to establish this myth. 3. TRUE: Although commonly taught, not only does the Bible not say that Thomas took the gospel to India but in addition there are no primary source 1st Century documents which substantiate this myth. There exist no primary source first century documents, Biblical, religious or secular to establish this myth. 4. TRUE: Although the history of the lives of the Apostles are commonly taught from the pulpit, books, Bible colleges and Seminaries, there is in fact scant evidence of the life and death of the majority of the Apostles. There exist no primary source first century documents, Biblical, religious or secular to establish the apocryphal teachings on the Apostles. We have some information on the disciples in the Gospels. We have great deal of information on the life of Paul in the Book of Acts and his Epistles. We have some information on a few others and absolutely no information on the majority of the twelve in the Book of Acts. When confronted with statements concerning the life and death of the Apostles the two questions you should ask are “Where in the Bible does it say this?” and failing this test you should say, “What first century primary source document establishes this fact” (The answer to this second question should entail the location of the library where this document is found, allowing you to research the fact for yourself.)
