Lean Upon the Lord
Tune "AM I A SOLDIER OF THE CROSS?" CM
Words by JIM BYRD

1. Be still my soul, submit, rejoice,
God governs everything;
Bow down and worship at His feet,
And praise the sovereign King.

2. Our Father’s will forever stands,
And changed it cannot be;
Jehovah reigns throughout the world,
By absolute decree.

3. God is the Ruler over all,
His will shall none frustrate;
For who could challenge or defeat
The mighty Potentate?

4. ‘Tis here that troubled saints shall find,
Joy, comfort, peace and rest;
In all things see the will of God,
For what He does is best.

5. So let us lean upon the Lord,
Trusting His tender care;
Rejoicing in His perfect will,
And never more despair.

"Father, I will that they also, whom Thou hast given Me,
be with Me where I am; that they may behold My glory,
which Thou hast given Me: for Thou lovedst Me before the foundation of the world." (John 17:24)

A Word to Mothers
You love your children, teach them right from wrong and provide for the needs of their bodies. You nurture them when they are sick, discipline them with they misbehave, embrace them when they weep and encourage them when they are cast down. While doing all of these things, be mindful of their spiritual needs. Teach them the scriptures, pray with them concerning their soul’s salvation, admonish them as sinners to look to Christ and bring them to sit under the sound of the gospel. Happy Mother’s Day! – Pastor Jim Byrd

Mercy
Mercy is, properly speaking, the name of Jesus. For David, speaking of grace, and pleading for it before the Lord saith, as an argument and plea for receiving it, "There is mercy (that is, there is Jesus) with Thee" (Psalm 130:4). And when Zacharias prophesied, under the influence of God the Holy Ghost, at the coming of Christ, he said it was "to perform the mercy promised" (Luke 1:72). Jesus is the Mercy promised. --Robert Hawker

"And they shall call His name Emmanuel,
which being interpreted is, God with us." Matthew 1:23
We must never, even in thought, separate the human nature of our adorable Redeemer from His divine. Even when His sacred body lay in the grave, and was thus for a small space of time severed from His pure and holy soul by death and the tomb, there was no separation of the two natures, for His human soul, after He had once become incarnate in the womb of the Virgin, never was parted from His Deity, but went into paradise in indissoluble union with it. It is a fundamental article of our most holy faith that the human nature of the Lord Jesus Christ had no existence independent of His divine. In the Virgin's womb, in the lowly manger, in the lonely wilderness, on the holy mount of transfiguration, in the gloomy garden of Gethsemane, in Pilate's judgment hall, on the cross, and in the tomb, Jesus was still Immanuel, God with us. And so ineffably close and intimate is the conjunction of the human nature with the divine, that the actings of each nature, though separable, cannot and must not be separated from each other. Thus, the human hands of Jesus broke the seven loaves and the fishes; but it was the God-man who multiplied them so as to feed therewith four thousand men, besides women and children. The human feet of Jesus walked on the sea of Galilee; but it was the Son of God who came on the waves to the ship. The human lips of Jesus uttered those words which are "spirit and life" (John 6:63), but it was the Son of the living God who spake them (John 6:69). The human hands and feet of Jesus were nailed to the cross; but the blood shed by them was indeed divine, for all the virtue and validity of Deity were stamped upon it (Acts 20:28). --J.C. Philpot - 1802-1869

The will is not sovereign; it is a servant, because it is influenced and controlled by the other faculties of man’s being. The will is not free because man is the slave of sin. – A. W. Pink
