Everyday Wisdom | Proverbs 25:2

“It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honor of kings is to search out a matter.” Proverbs 25:2

You are not God. Admittedly, you already knew that. But as this verse expresses, we are often guilty of acting like we don’t understand this. Since God is infinitely wise and omniscient, there are two things He never needs to do: 1) explain Himself, and 2) ponder the right move. These are not signs of God’s arrogance or aloofness. Instead, they accent His glory. The love of God demonstrates this principle. Ephesians tells us that the love of God is beyond our comprehension. Why would He act in selfless love to one who hated Him and sought to ignore Him? After an eternity of pondering this question, we would be left with only one answer: His wise purpose and grace. In other words, we would be left in wonder of His glory. In contrast, since we are finite and lacking in wisdom, there are two things we should always do: 1)explain ourselves, and 2) ponder the right move. The failure to do that is always a sign of arrogance. It is setting up ourselves as if we are God. Whatever our role, be it pastor, parent, teacher, or boss, the moment we rise above sincere inquiry is the moment we confuse ourselves with God.
