True or False - According to the Bible....
- Polygamy was the norm in the Bible.
- The land that God promised Israel was to be a land of “milk and honey,” only if Israel lived in such a way as to bring the blessing of God. In reality, it was a harsh land and presented so by God.
- The Old Testament depicts the God of wrath and the New Testament depicts the God of love.
- The Queen of Sheba and Solomon had a love affair.

Dear Prayer Warriors,
Each week, I will be posting a series of true and false questions, with the answers appearing below. The object of these questions is for you to test yourself--not a test of obscure Bible trivia but a test of whether you are holding to Biblical revelation or to myths and legends passed down by ignorant men. You should ask yourself, “If I have believed this myth, what other myths do I believe?” The goal is that you will be challenged to faithfully read and study the holy Scriptures and base your convictions on the holy, eternal, inerrant written Word of God.

True or False - According To The Bible....

35. Polygamy was the norm in the Bible.
False – Although men, both righteous and profane, did practice polygamy in the Bible, it was never God’s plan and it was always a sin. God’s plan from creation was one man and one woman becoming “one flesh” through the mystical union of marriage. Genesis 2:24 “For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.” The fact that men sinned in this area does not make it acceptable or the norm. In the Bible, men murdered, raped, stole etc. These were always sins condemned by God. God did not make exceptions for great men. In Deuteronomy 16:17 God commands kings “He shall not multiply wives for himself, or else his heart will turn away…” And because of David’s and Solomon’s disobedience in this area, David’s line ceased to rule a united nation of Israel. 1 Kings 11:11 “So the LORD said to Solomon, "Because you have done this, and you have not kept My covenant and My statutes, which I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you, and will give it to your servant.” In 1 Timothy 3:2, God the Holy Spirit instructs the Church, “An overseer, then, must be above reproach, the husband of one wife…” and again in Titus 1:6 “namely, if any man is above reproach, the husband of one wife …” The Bible absolutely condemns polygamy. The Old Testament and the New Testament both condemn polygamy. Both the Old Testament and New Testament present examples of godly monogamous marriages. Both the Old Testament and New Testament teach marriage as a covenant with God between one man and one woman, creating a mystical union, for life. There are, in fact, many instances in Holy Scripture of monogamous, godly men and women who lived out their lives as God commanded – one man, married to one woman, becoming “one flesh” for life. Some examples of these couples are as follows -
Genesis 7:7 - Noah and his sons and daughters
Exodus 2:1 – 10 The parents of Moses
Exodus 2:21 – Moses and Zipporah
Judges chapter 13 – Manoah and his wife, the parents of Samson
Ruth 4:13 – Boaz and Ruth
In I Samuel, the line of Eli to Samuel to Saul is monogamous. It was King David who rebelled against God’s Word and took multiple wives. This sin was reproduced in David’s son, Solomon, to the destruction of the nation of Israel.
I Samuel 14:50 – King Saul and his wife Ahimaaz
II Samuel 11:6 – Uriah the Hittite and his wife Bathsheba
Job 2:9 – Job had but one wife.
Ezekiel 24:15 – 18 – Prophet Ezekiel and his wife
Luke 1:5 – Zacharias and Elizabeth, the parents of John the Baptist
Luke 2:5 – Joseph and Mary, the earthly parents of Jesus
Matthew 8:14 – The Apostle Peter

36. The land that God promised Israel was to be a land of “milk and honey,” only if Israel lived in such a way as to bring the blessing of God. In reality, it was a harsh land and presented so by God.
True - (Deuteronomy 11:11 – 17) There are many “contingent” blessings for the nation of Israel and this was one of them. The blessing of God on their land was always to be a witness of the blessings of obedience.

37. The Old Testament depicts the God of wrath and the New Testament depicts the God of love.
False – This is a myth propagated by liberal Bible teachers and secular scholars, both of whom speak out of ignorance. There are many verses in the Old Testament which present God as a loving God. Take as one example the attribute of God’s lovingkindness. Psalms 36:5 “Your lovingkindness, O LORD, extends to the heavens, Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.” Lovingkindness, as attributed to God, occurs over 150 times in the Old Testament. There are many other uses of the word “love” by God and attributed to God, such as Jeremiah 31:3 “The LORD appeared to him from afar, saying, "I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness.” It is, then, categorically false that the God of the Old Testament is not a God of love but one of wrath. Contrastingly, there are many statements of God’s wrath in the New Testament. John 3:36 “He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him." In fact the word “wrath,” as it applies to God, occurs over 40 times in the New Testament. This does not include the many references to judgment and Hell, as depicted in the New Testament. Revelation 20:12-15
12 And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds.
14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.
15 And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

38. The Queen of Sheba and Solomon had a love affair.
False – This is a common myth propagated by secular movies, TV and books. It is only recently that so called Christian novels have, to their shame, added to this myth. The fact is that the Scriptural record of their encounter in 2 Chronicles 9:1-12 makes no mention of any romance, friendship or temptation. It was a purely political event.
By His Mercy,
II Corinthians 4:1
