In the exhortation to not envy evil men, Solomon now gives us a reason why. What Solomon actually does here, is unveils the curtain of what these men actually are, as if to say – “Why would you envy or desire to walk with someone like this?” It is worth noting, that most jealousy is usually based on an unrealistic idea of what another person possesses, and how wonderful their life must be. Solomon tells us that these individuals have a life habit of studying destruction. What that literally means is that they are completely consumed with violence, oppression, and destruction. They continually speak of perverseness, grief and sorrow. This is a sobering description, and yet to one degree or another, it is the description of what we would all be, left to ourselves. Thanks be to Jesus Christ that we have been transformed through the power of the gospel, and we do not have to be overcome by envy and influenced by the wicked.
