Dear Prayer Warriors, Each week will be posted a series of True and False questions, with the answers appearing below. The object of these questions is for you to test yourself--not a test of obscure Bible trivia but a test of whether you are holding to Biblical revelation or myths and legends passed down by ignorant men. You should ask yourself, “If I have believed this myth, what other myths do I believe?” The goal is that you will be challenged to faithfully read and study the Holy Scriptures and base your convictions on the holy, eternal, inerrant written Word of God.
True or False - According To The Bible.... 1. We are still under the dietary laws – Leviticus 11:1 – end False Under the New Covenant the dietary laws of the Old Covenant are done away with and we are no longer held to their restrictions. Jesus Himself taught this and we do not need to be more holy than Jesus when eating. We are freed from the Law and it is in fact a sign of spiritual weakness to keep the dietary rules and regulations of the law. Romans 14:2 One person has faith that he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats vegetables only. Matt 15:11 “Not what enters into the mouth defiles the man, but what proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man." Mark 7:18-20 18 And He said to them, "Are you so lacking in understanding also? Do you not understand that whatever goes into the man from outside cannot defile him; 19 because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and is eliminated?" Thus He declared all foods clean.) 20 And He was saying, "That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man. Galatians 5:1 “It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.”
2. Dietary laws were given for health purposes – Leviticus 10: 9 & 10; 17:10 – 12 False There are no verses in the holy Scripture which teach that the dietary laws were given for health reasons. The Law was given to teach the reality that there is sin and righteousness through the symbols of clean and unclean. Some, while admitting that they are free to eat all things, still keep the dietary laws claiming they are “healthier” and given for health reasons. This is pure fabrication, without Biblical or scientific grounds. Keeping the Law (including dietary laws) is considered a curse from which we have been redeemed by Christ. Galatians 3:10 & 13 “For as many as are of the works of the Law are under a curse; for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO DOES NOT ABIDE BY ALL THINGS WRITTEN IN THE BOOK OF THE LAW, TO PERFORM THEM." …13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us — for it is written, "CURSED IS EVERYONE WHO HANGS ON A TREE" — “
3. Although technically free from dietary Laws it is the spiritual and moral high ground to keep them False The Law was never meant to be practiced after it’s fulfillment in the sacrifice of Christ. God the Holy Spirit consistently teaches in the Holy Scriptures that we are free from the Law and that those who choose to live under the Law are needlessly re-enslaving themselves to a system which God has done away with and which is no longer applicable. 1 Timothy 1:6-7 6 For some men, straying from these things, have turned aside to fruitless discussion, 7 wanting to be teachers of the Law, even though they do not understand either what they are saying or the matters about which they make confident assertions. Romans 3:19-20 19 Now we know that whatever the Law says, it speaks to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and all the world may become accountable to God; 20 because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin. Romans 5:20-21 20 The Law came in so that the transgression would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, 21 so that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
4. Numerology – 7 is perfect number, False Nowhere in the holy Scriptures does it say that seven is the perfect number
5. 3 is the number for God False Nowhere in the holy Scriptures does it say that three is the number for God
6. Numerology – 666 is an unlucky number False Nowhere in the holy Scriptures does it say that 666 is an unlucky number The last three questions are based on assumptions passed down for generations. True, there does appear to be a link between some numbers and God’s revelation, but this does not establish it as doctrine. No teacher of Holy Scriptures has the right to proclaim a doctrine apart from the revelation of the holy, eternal, inerrant written Word of God.
7. 13 is an unlucky number False This and other superstitions have no basis in Scripture and it is both the shame of Christians and the sin of Christians when they give credence to them. 1 Timothy 4:7 But have nothing to do with worldly fables fit only for old women. On the other hand, discipline yourself for the purpose of godliness;
8. Numerology - There are numerical codes in the Bible that can be discovered by giving the Hebrew, Greek, Latin or English alphabet numerical values. A variation of this is that there are certain important number combinations in the Bible – thus looking up all the verses that have 3:16 or 666 will help you understand the hidden meanings in the Bible. False Again, the Bible not only does not teach that there are magical or mystical numbers but it condemns such speculation as sin. 1 Timothy 1:3-4 3 As I urged you upon my departure for Macedonia, remain on at Ephesus so that you may instruct certain men not to teach strange doctrines, 4 nor to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which give rise to mere speculation rather than furthering the administration of God which is by faith.
