Some of the ugliest, most horrific human acts have been committed in the name of standing for “truth.” As such is the case, there is a growing tendency to minimize the concept and the value of truth. Predictably, according to Ephesians 4, this mindset produces spiritual infants, infants ill-equipped for sound thinking and committed resolve. This mindset places the final arbiter of truth in the hand of the beholder, relegating truth to the level of opinion and feeling, and rendering the individual unstable and irrational. The thinking that “any truth is truth, and so no truth can be held as vital” is thinking that is destined to produce foolishness and ultimately, the complete absence of stable thinking. The antidote for this malady is to recognize the Source of truth. God is truth. As such, both God and truth are to be reverenced, held in the highest esteem, and sought after diligently. The attitude cannot be “any truth is truth; it doesn’t make much difference.” It also cannot be “I have all truth." Instead, it must be “God is absolute truth, He reveals His truth through His word, so let me diligently seek and submit myself to His word.” The moment we minimize the importance of truth is the same moment we begin to minimize God Himself. If truth is not a concern, we will ultimately create a god of our own minds.
