Eight Observations from the Church Leader's Luncheon
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 4, 2015

Last week, Tom Ford, the NCFIC’s Regional Facilitator for the Southeast, arranged three meetings for the two of us in Orlando, FL; Atlanta, GA; and Alabaster, AL (near Birmingham). There were about 40 men total that joined us. We were extremely encouraged to be with men who seemed fully devoted to the sufficiency of Scripture for their church and family life. During our time, I shared our seven objectives; and we also gave away resources, shared stories, and prayed together.

Here are seven observations from our time:

First, we met with many seasoned veterans and committed church men. It was good to see men we had known for many years, as well as those whom we had not met. I think that about half of them I had never met before.

Second, all of them were attempting to make Scripture sufficient in their churches and families.

Third, many of the churches were growing, except in some cases where they were still in the process of making transitions doctrinally regarding the Gospel, as well as re-ordering for an age-integrated discipleship format; and some were experiencing attrition over the doctrines of grace and orthopraxy. In each meeting there were pastors from two ends of the spectrum – those who had planted churches and those who were reforming the existing churches the Lord had called them to. The reformers seemed to be having more trials.

Fourth, they were hungry for fellowship, relationships, and some of them felt isolated and alone. They were all very thankful for the meetings.

Fifth, at each meeting we were invited to come back and have another conference there.

Sixth, the men agreed with the direction that the NCFIC has been defining. This was very encouraging.

Seventh, they were seeking ways to reach their communities for Christ.

Eighth, they want to bring their churches to our conferences this year.

We have more of these scheduled this year in California, Arizona, Colorado, Nebraska, Massachusetts, and some others for which we are awaiting dates.
