We have just posted today's follow-up to the Christmas Advent Study series. Now is an excellent opportunity to continue the spiritual discipline of daily Bible reading, study and worship as a family. Just follow the link below to access this in our blog. I pray it is a blessing. Lessons To Be Learned From Scriptural Advent Mediations You have been meditating not on the mythologies, speculations and traditions of men but rather the holy, eternal, inerrant written Word of God. As a result you may very well have come to view the revelation of God the Holy Spirit concerning the birth of Christ in an entirely new light. Now is a good time for reflection on lessons learned. Each day read the passage, reflect on the devotional thought and then, if doing this as a family, discuss your conclusions.
2. Learn to study the Bible for yourself.
II Timothy 2:15 “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth.”
The second thing we must ask ourselves is, “What other things do I believe incorrectly about the life of Jesus and the Bible”. It is our personal responsibility to be “handling accurately the word of truth.” The Word of God says concerning the Bereans in Acts 17:11 “Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily, to see whether these things were so.” We too must become students of the Word of God, examining the Holy Scriptures daily to see whether these things are so. We must take personal responsibility for our command of the Holy Scriptures.
Let me ask you something, would the exact truth be important to you if it were a family member and not simply God the Son? Consider this. You are at a family gathering to commemorate the memory of your father who went to be with the Lord some years back. One after another men got up to give testimony of his life, even though they hardly knew him. They had their facts wrong, they had the dates wrong, the injected people who were not there, they made up events, they presented PowerPoint pictorial presentations with pictures that weren't even your father's picture!! Your shock continued as you realized that this erroneous information was being published in the paper. During the whole event you kept trying to correct the growing volume of wrong information about your father, and people kept saying, "What's the big deal. They are just stories?" Well it would be a big deal. How much more is God the Father offended by all the erroneous information presented concerning the birth of God the Son in churches throughout Christmas? How much more careful should Christians and ministers be concerning the facts of the birth and early years of their Savior - God the Son? Yet the myths are perpetuated in homes and churches year after year.
I can remember a “docu-drama” concerning the American president Dwight D. Eisenhower. This gentleman by all accounts was a Christian and lived a conservative moral life. This though was not interesting enough for the Hollywood producers so they interjected a marital affair and several other items to spice it up. Now the general public had no problems with this, it made for interesting viewing but his family was infuriated. His widow was particularly hurt and angered. The movie producers were surprised, after all it was a “dramatic presentation” but that made no difference to his family who loved and revered this great man. How much more will the protestations to God the Father that this is a “children’s drama” or “dramatic presentation” fall on deaf ears to the offended God the Father. How much more will God the Holy Spirit be offended that His record is being distorted and set aside?
It is time for Christians, mothers, fathers, ministers and pastors to take personal responsibility for accurately presenting the truths of the holy, eternal, inerrant written Word of God as it pertains to the birth of our Savior, God the Son, the second member of the Holy Trinity.
Revelation 22:18-19 18 I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book; 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book.
