This is a truth that should support the very base of our foundation for living life. The glorious reality that Solomon gives us here is that even though our hearts are conflicted at times in making decisions, though we are at times void of understanding and wisdom, the counsel of the Lord is an unchanging, immovable rock. The word counsel here has what I am going to refer to as a multi-dimensional meaning. It literally means that the advice, plans and purposes of God will stand and not be overturned. It is a big statement to say that God’s truth will always correspond to reality regardless of the philosophies and experiences of mankind. It is even bigger to say that God controls things in such a way that His plans always come to pass. And it is beyond our comprehension to say that God orchestrates the universe in such a way that not only do his plans come to pass, but the purposes that He intends for those plans are always accomplished. As amazing as each of these truths would be on their own, all three of them are equally and simultaneously true about God. How do we respond to a truth like this? With a confidence and trust in the goodness of God throughout every area and season of our lives. This truth coupled with a desire to honor God through a pursuit of wisdom, should keep us from being paralyzed, or beating ourselves up over decisions that have been or must be made. This is not a call to flippant decision making because what we do doesn’t really matter anyway; but a call to trust that while in your best efforts you may make blunders, God is not willing for those blunders to destroy you, or distort the plans and purposes that He has for you and His Kingdom. May we find rest in the one who loves us and keeps us as the apple of His eye.
