Ps 139:1-6 O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether. Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it. The Psalmist is reflecting and musing the knowledge of God. When we realize the perfection of God's knowledge, we too would conclude, "Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it."
God knows everything perfectly. Everything past, everything present and even everything futuristic. He is perfectly knowledgable of every detail in the life of every being in the entire universe. He knew Lucifer, knows Lucifer and knows the very details of Lucifer's future - in detail. But God knows the same of every being as if they were but one. Though He be invisible to us, we are not to Him. The things that happen in the darkness, behind the closed doors, in the deepest dungeon, nor in the depths of hell can escape His knowledge. God knew what Adam and Eve did even though they tried to cover it with fig leaves. No person knew what Cain did with Abel, but God knew. Sarah though that the tent concealed her laughter, but God knew. Achan hid a wedge of gold, but God knew where it was. David covered his sins carefully, but his sin displeased the Lord - God knew!
God's knowledge of our past is remembered (except for the forgotten sins of the saints), His knowledge of our present is precise and His knowledge of our eternal future is definitive. God's knowledge of our future is as complete as His knowledge of our past and present. How this revelation of God should thwart our reckless sins! He knows you perfectly. Not one nanosecond of your life escapes His gazing eye!
What a wonderful thought! We are being watched, not by the government but by our Heavenly Father. He knows your downsittings and your uprisings. He knows your thoughts afar off. Like He knew Peter, He knoweth all things, He knows that you love Him! As Job said, "I cannot see him, but he knoweth the way that I take," (Job 23:9,10).
The comprehension of God's perfect knowledge should add to the Christian's worship and adoration of their Savior! The whole of your life stood as an open book, read by the Lord before your conception. God foresaw your rebellion, your every sin, your often lukewarmness, your times of denial, yet He fixed His heart upon you. O, what a wonderful God!
Ps 147:5 Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.
