3 John 2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. So many times in life we fix our affections on things that appeal to us or someone close to us. "She is my life!" we may say or "I live to __________." You fill in the blank. While doing things and loving people are a part of all of our lives, for us to survive and truly prosper we must attend to our souls. Paul put it like this,
Colossians 3:4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
For the saved, Jesus is our life! Things come and go, people come and go; but Jesus will never leave us nor forsake us. A life lived without an intimate relationship with the One who is our life, will leave us empty and bankrupt inside. We often think, "I need to get away and recharge my life." When we return usually we are wore out from recharging and still empty inside.
Most of us use cell phones today and they need recharging also. Through daily use, our cell phones need to be plugged into its life source; the power that revives it to its full potential. If we said, "My cell phone just needs to get away and recharge," it would weaken and become useless.
So many Christians become empty inside, they become frustrated outside and they wonder, "Why am I thus?" We begin thinking, "It's up to me!" You begin thinking that serving God is all about hard work, managing your time well, accomplishing many things for Jesus and on your life goes with an unhealthy soul.
Back to our cell phone. What do we naturally do when it needs recharging? We plug it into its life source. The longer it stays plugged into the source of its power, the more effective and productive it naturally becomes. Without even thinking about it, the cell phone functions normally. The inside battery (type of our soul) was taken care of so it could be a cell phone proper.
Without spending time with your life source daily, your battery (soul) will lack and you will begin trying to function without any life. Lifeless activity will become the norm or your everyday life because you are running with an unhealthy soul. It will eventually crash and burnout.
Plug your soul into your life source and stay plugged in. Jesus said,
John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Live with a healthy soul by abiding in (plugged into) Jesus! You can't have a healthy soul without Him!
