Eph 4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, Johnny Lingo was a character in a short piece of fiction. Johnny was a Polynesian trader in the South Pacific islands. He was strong, bright and rich. On an adjacent island lived a woman named Sarita that was plain, skinny and walked with her shoulders drooping.
It was customary among the people of the islands to buy a wife from her father for two or three cows. In a transaction shocking to the islanders, Johnny so loved Sarita that he willingly gave eight cows for her hand in marriage. To Johnny, she was an eight cow wife! He was willing to give more than had ever been given because he wanted her to know how much he loved her and how he viewed her in his eyes.
One day a visitor came to see this eight cow wife. Sarita was the most beautiful woman she had ever seen. Her shoulders were lifted, and her eyes sparkled and her spirit was beautiful. Why? She was walking worthy of her calling. She became what Johnny declared her to be.
We are called to become what God has declared us to be. Jesus saved us, adopted us, forgave us, declared us righteous in his eyes and put the deisre in us to live for Him!
If God has given so much for us (His only Son!) we should walk worthy of the price given. Ephesians 4:1 is just the beginning of a three verse sentence. Read the rest of the sentence to see how we should walk in this world...
Eph 4:2-3 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
