Our last day in Romania was began with a visit to Nicolae Ceaucescu's castle. It is located in the center of Bucharest and is the second largest building in the world. To build it, 7000 houses, churches, monasteries and a hospital had to be destroyed. It took 4 years to build at a cost of many lives. We toured the building and saw its huge expansive rooms. Ceaucescu wanted everything to be bigger, longer, higher than anything in the world. Some parts had to be rebuilt 12 times simply because the Ceaucescu's weren't happy with it. The tour showed only 5 percent of the building, and some parts of it are currently used for government offices. The Ceaucescus never lived to see its completion as they were executed in 1989. The next stop for the group was a cultural center, very similar to Old World Wisconsin. There were examples of housing and farming equipment from all regions of Romania. Artwork and crafts and food were also there. At the end of the day, we had a farewell dinner at a nearby restaurant. It was a great time for everyone to enjoy a last meal together! Tomorrow both the US team and World Tour teams leave for the States.
