God, in His kindness, gives us a priority in our passage today. Peace and contentment are to take priority over wealth and material gain. The fact that God would contrast the two reveals that we believe a lie, when we tell ourselves that we would be content if we only had ________. More stuff will never make us want less; rather, it will reveal the gratitude or lack thereof in our heart. The problem here is not material wealth, but the throne on which we place it. God tells us here, that peace ought to take precedent over stuff. Our time and energy spent pursuing peace and contentment is going to have to be intentional. Peace is not a natural state for a house full of individuals who are bent toward selfishness; it will take a strong effort to cultivate this in your lives. How do we pursue real peace and contentment? By sacrificing our agenda, and replacing it with God’s agenda on a daily basis.
