Everyday Wisdom | Proverbs 16:29, 30

“A violent man enticeth his neighbor, and leadeth him into the way that is not good; he shutteth his eyes to devise forward things: moving his lips he bringeth evil to pass.” Proverbs 16:29,30

One of the great dangers, particularly for youth, is naivete. Lack of experience often means lack of good judgment. This is a tricky issue. On one hand, we should manifest loving, giving spirits to all men. We should avoid harsh judgments of others. On the other hand, we are to be discerning of good and evil. Having discernment means that we have to make difficult decisions. One of the most difficult decisions, particularly for young people, is the decision to not make friendships with those who are foolish or regularly practice evil. The naïve trust without discretion. As a result, corrupt communication corrupts good manners. But the reality is that there are wicked people, whose minds and words are churning with evil. I vividly remember the first outside job I had as a teenager. The desire to be accepted was a nearly overwhelming desire. This desire constantly butted heads with what I knew was right and acceptable with God. If you are a young person who struggles with this issue, let me offer one help. Utilize your parents! God has given you parents as an asset to you. Discuss your friendships with them. Discuss your conversations with your acquaintances. Seek their opinions regarding your friends. Ask them for advice on how to avoid difficult situations. Make no mistake. The violent (mischievous) person will inevitably lead you in a way that is not good. The wise, discerning man will lead you towards life.
