In the midst of all of these words, have you ever stopped to consider whether your speech is having a healing or divisive effect? The idea of a wholesome tongue is one that brings healing, help, and comfort. Several translations of the Bible render this phrase “gentle tongue”. Those, whose words are characterized by gentleness, are said to be a tree of life. However, those whose words are characterized as being divisive, they are said to be an injury to the spirit. How would you characterize your speech? Has it ever occurred to you that God is taking account of “every idol word” that you say? I do not say this as a scare tactic, but to remind you of the fact that every minute we live, we live in the presence of God. Every conversation we have, we have in the presence of God.
