"Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known." Proverbs 14:33
Once again, we have a contrast between wisdom and foolishness. Wisdom rests in the heart of those who possess it. This simply means that those who have wisdom are humble enough not to be a know it all. They use their wisdom as it is needed, but do not try to put the spotlight on themselves as if they were something great. They hear a matter before they answer and they pray for wisdom before giving advice. Those who have understanding know when and how to use the wisdom they possess.
However, the fool’s foolishness is open to the public. It is helpful to keep in mind that a fool considers their foolishness to be wisdom. The result of this misconception, is that they readily dispense the foolishness they perceive to be wisdom. Now be sure that you do not misunderstand what I am saying. It is not that fools always talk a lot and wise men have nothing to say. It is that those who possess wisdom have discernment and discretion, so that they know what to say and when to say it. The fool has neither discernment nor discretion, and so they just say what comes to mind. How do we respond to a verse like this… by pursuing wisdom.
