GIVE GLORY TO THE LORD Tune to “I LOVE THY KINGDOM LORD” SM Words by JIM BYRD
1. Our God and Father praise, For free and sovereign grace; In love He purposed to redeem And save a chosen race.
2. Give honor to the Son, Who dwelt in human clay; By His own blood our debt was paid, And sin was washed away.
3. Praise God the Holy Ghost, He brought us to the Lord; Let songs from all the ransomed host, Arise with one accord.
4. Give glory to the Lord, O may His worthy praise; Be lifted up throughout this age And everlasting days.
“I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for He hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, He hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh Himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.” (Isaiah 61:10)
SCRIPTURE READINGS TODAY: MORNING: JEREMIAH 23:1-8 EVENING: JOHN 10:22-42
BABYLON Babylon is the Bible name used to set forth the entirety of false religion. Just as the literal city of Babylon opposed Jehovah and Israel, so all of false religion is set in opposition to the Lord and His people and is called “BABYLON THE GREAT” (Revelation 17:5). She is known by her false gospel which is any message that makes salvation dependent upon sinners rather than upon the grace of God and the person and work of Christ. Babylon is no respecter of denominations and she encompasses the globe. In our country, she especially bewitches by her Arminian heresy. Millions upon millions worship at her altar of free-willism and follow as she leads them to establish a righteousness of their own rather than submit to the righteousness of God. She is an alluring spiritual harlot, seductively attractive and irresistible to the unregenerate man. She is immense and powerful, and has multitudes of willing disciples, but her days are numbered for the Lord will destroy Babylon. “And great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath” (Revelation 16:19). Is there no hope for those who are under the deception of Babylon? Yes there is hope, but nothing can break the power of her magical spell except the effectual grace of God Almighty Who, using the true gospel, must say, “Come out of her, My people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues” (Revelation 18:4). –Pastor Jim Byrd
TRUE GOSPEL - FALSE GOSPEL “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from Him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ” (Galatians 1:6-7). Those who want to know the difference between the true gospel and “another gospel,” that is, a false gospel, need only ask, upon whom does salvation depend? A false gospel always makes salvation dependent upon the sinner’s will or work. There may be talk about the love, kindness and grace of the Father, the life, death and resurrection of the Son and the conviction, call and work of the Spirit, but when acceptance before God is in any way conditioned upon something a sinner must do or contribute, that is a false gospel. A false gospel essentially makes man his own savior for it declares that salvation hinges upon the decision of the sinner. The true gospel says salvation rests entirely upon the Lord. This is the glad tidings of God’s purpose of grace, the good news of what God in Christ has already accomplished for the people He sovereignly gave to the Son in eternal, covenant love. It declares their ransom price has been paid, justice has been satisfied, their transgressions have been finished, their sins have been put away, reconciliation has been made and everlasting righteousness has been brought in. The Father chose a multitude unto salvation before the world was made. Though they fell in Adam’s transgression, the Son reconciled the elect to the Father by His work of redemption. At some point, the Holy Spirit will confront these chosen, redeemed sinners with the true gospel. They will be born from above, granted repentance from dead works and idols and given faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. They will grow in grace, in the knowledge of Christ and be preserved in faith until the day of their death when their souls shall exit this world to be with the Lord forever. Someday their bodies will be raised to immortality and incorruption. “Salvation is of the LORD” (Jonah 2:9). –Pastor Jim Byrd
