WHY SHOULD THIS RANSOMED SINNER FEAR?
TUNE "FROM EVERY STORMY WIND" LM
WORDS BY JIM BYRD

1. When troubles like a mountain rise,
O let me trust my Lord most wise;
When storms assail and billows roll,
Still rest in Him who saved my soul.

2. For He Who gave Himself to save,
Guides from my birth unto the grave;
All things take place as He decreed,
And He will meet my every need.

3. Be still my soul nor fearful be,
Christ knows all things, He hears my plea;
He reigns upon His Priestly throne,
He sees each tear and hears each groan.

4. Since I am His and He is mine,
Each trial has a wise design;
Why should this ransomed sinner fear?
Jesus my Lord is ever near.

"Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else." (Isaiah 45:22)

Three things ought to be desired as we prepare ourselves to hear a message from the Word of God. 1. Intention to worship. 2. Attention of the mind. 3. Retention of what we hear. –Pastor Jim Byrd

LAST WORDS OF JOSIAH CONDER
Josiah Conder (1789-1855) wrote the lyrics to several poems which others have put to music. (The Lord Is King, #16 in our hymnal.) When he was on his deathbed at age 66, he requested that some of his poems be read to him by his children. He asked to have the last stanza of one of them repeated (based on 1 Corinthians 3:21-23).

"Beset with fears and cares,
in Christ my heart is strong;
all things in life and death are theirs,
to whom the Lord belong."

One of his children, after reading those lines three times said, "Now, father, you can go to sleep on that." "Oh yes," responded his father, "and die upon it." And he did. –Pastor Jim Byrd

A BLESSED NATION
"Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom He hath chosen for His own inheritance" (Psalm 33:12). On the surface, "the nation" in view is natural Israel, but in a much deeper and fuller sense, the nation referred to is that one chosen in Christ unto salvation before the foundation of the world. It is the same nation Peter wrote about. "But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light: which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy" (1 Peter 2:9-10). This is the greatest nation which has ever existed, and it is the only nation that is beloved of the Lord. He chose her to be His special treasure, His own possession. This is "the righteous nation that keepeth the truth" (Isaiah 26:2). It is this nation alone that is "blessed," for she is "blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ Jesus" (Ephesians 1:3). All other nations rise and fall and are used by God in His eternal purpose for the preservation of and the ultimate benefit of this one nation. This vast nation consists of a people redeemed by the Lamb’s blood "out of every kindred, and tongue, and people and nation" (Revelation 5:9).

I am thankful to live in and be a citizen of this great republic, the United States of America. God has seen fit to place me in this land of freedom where I could hear the gospel of His free grace, believe and preach that same gospel. The Lord has mightily used our nation in the spreading of His truth. You and I know, however, that this earthly nation as a whole has no interest in nor regard for the glory of God or the Word of God. Our country is imploding from corruption. The rampant perversion of our society gives evidence of the judgment of God (Romans 1). But there remains a nation that is blessed of God, ordained unto salvation, redeemed by the Savior’s blood, justified by His imputed righteousness and effectually called one by one by the Holy Spirit to faith in Christ. This nation is the habitation of God. Sadly, this spiritual nation is not understood nor loved by the nation of my physical birth. However, when all other nations have come and gone, this blessed nation shall endure forever, preserved by the Lord "to the praise of the glory of His grace." –Pastor Jim Byrd
