âAnd as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them allâ (Luke 17:26). There are many incidents in scripture of swift and unexpected judgment coming upon wicked societies: the sudden destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, the ground swallowing up the rebellion of Korah in the days of Moses. The Bible also warns of sudden judgement upon the obstinate, in Proverbs 29:1, âHe, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.â Death, in most cases, is sudden, and if the heart is not prepared the wrath of God is instant. God has set bounds for all of us that we cannot pass, as it was with those at the time of the great flood. God set a time of one hundred and twenty years, and in the self-same day precisely when those years expired; sudden destruction came upon the society of Noah. Many warnings had been given through the course of those years. No one except Noah and his family heeded. There had never been a flood before and so they did not believe it possible. But it came just the same. Let me reason, if I may, with the careless and unprepared. There is coming a great deluge of unrestrained wrath upon those who leave this world unsaved. Noahâs ark was a picture of Jesus Christ, the only Savior of men. Noah and his family found refuge in the ark and were spared the awful destruction that fell on the world outside the ark. We preach Christ the only hope and refuge for sinners. We urge all that are unconverted to flee to Christ, the ark of safety. Divine judgment is coming as a great flood upon all-ungodly men and women. The mighty billows of divine wrath will be greater than the billows of Noahâs flood. Those billows reached fifteen cubits above the highest mountains. There were no shorelines for those waters; it covered all the earth. The deluge in Noahâs day was vast and very deep. The wrath of God that shall fall upon the unprepared soul shall be a deluge of wrath without shoreline as the waters of Noahâs flood. It will bring a misery that will have no end. Oh my dear and most precious soul, unprepared and without hope, will you not flee to Christ the ark of safety while the door stands open? When God shut the door of Noahâs ark it was shut, and man could open it not. When God closes the door of grace it shall be closed forever.
In Christ his Ark, he safely rides, Not wrecked by death or sin. How is it he so safe abides? The Lord has shut him in.
