"A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just." Proverbs 13:22
The inheritance mentioned here is specifically wealth. However, the verse doesn’t necessarily mean that unless you leave your grandchildren a lot of money, then you cannot be considered a good man. It is the virtue, discipline and character of a man that allows an in heritance to accumulate and be passed down. The good man has been an example of self-control to his children. The good man has dealt with his money as a good steward of what God has given him. A good man passes on a good character. Without the virtues mentioned above, wealth will become an idol and eventually bring misery or quickly vanish. The reason the sinner can’t hold on to his wealth, is because he doesn’t know who it came from or how to use it. He pampers himself with worthless luxuries. He prides himself in what “he” has accomplished. The inheritance that is so valuable to pass down to our children is found in Proverbs 1:7, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.”
