“The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.” Proverbs 11:3
Many sincere people struggle with fear of the future unknown. We hear of others unexpectedly falling into sin and wonder if we ourselves will follow the same path. Recently, I was asked to provide pre-marital counseling to a young couple. With joy, I was able to relate this truth: “Marriage is very serious. Many marriages crumble, and others that continue often are unhappy. But, the good news is that you don’t have to enter your marriage in fear; the fear that yours will follow the same unhappy pattern. If you commit to obeying God’s Word, then no matter what challenges arise, you will overcome.” This is the good news of Proverbs 11:3. The integrity of the upright is just another way of describing a person who fears God, who is committed to obeying God’s Word. The good news to this person is that you will be guided, guided through whatever the future unknown brings. There is both safety and security in commitment to God.
