Think of a war situation. A country has certain installations that it seeks to protect - at all costs. Power supplies, water supplies etc. These are guarded like gold-dust, lest the enemy should break through and destroy.

The Lord Jesus said in John 10:10, "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy......" and this is the aim of the enemy (ie the devil) in regard to our hearts.
