“Remove from me the way of lying: and grant me Thy law graciously. ” Psalm 119:29
If you are alive today, you live in a world given to “the way of lying.” That is, the philosophy and wisdom of the world are opposed to the truth of God. “All religions are equally valid” or “The Bible is an out-dated, irrelevant book” are common mantras of college campuses. Closer to home, we are tempted to believe lies like “This one little sin isn’t so bad” or “I’ve got to buy more things to keep up with the Joneses” or “Football season or buying new clothes are going to make me happy.”
This is all the way of lying. Satan is the father of lies. Our sinful nature also makes us promises that are not true. The lies are designed to distract or outright lead us away from God. Jesus, however, said to the Father, “Thy Word is truth.”
As David prayed, may we pray for and seek to receive God’s truth into our hearts and minds. Truth is healthy and vital to the well-being of our souls. Lies lead to bondage. As Jesus said, “The truth will make you free.”
